Thank you Plum Island

After a string of night shifts, seeing little sunshine , and not leaving  the port(which often smells like fuel) , I was feeling drained and depleted.  Plum Island was a welcome sanctuary!  Little did I know, I would have the opportunity today to snorkel on a coral reef. Did you know coral provides a habitat for algae, and in return , the algae, through photosynthesis,  provides energy for the coral? They have a symbiotic relationship. This reminds me of fellowship, where people find, friends, refuge, comfort, and healing together.

It struck me fellowship happens here in the hospital. I thought I was here to offer hope and healing to patients but the truth is, I receive too!

Being with patients, hearing their stories, sharing in both their struggles and victories-gives me perspective, purpose, even healing.
