Rooted and Grounded

On the first day or two after arriving at Mercy Ships, I noticed this tree on top of a warehouse used for pre-admission testing prior to patients having surgery. Below the tree is all concrete. The tree has no friends,  around, no water source, no gutters. Yet, it seems rooted  in something.  Often, when I see something like this, I sense there may be a deeper meaning.  The verse from Jeremiah came to mind, "He is like a tree planted by water that sends out its roots by the stream and does not fear when heat comes for its leaves remain green,. And it's not anxious in the year of drought for it does not cease to bear a fruit.

I long to be like this tree. However, since arriving on Mercy Ships i've been anxious often because my value has been rooted  in my performance. There is no electronic record, no scanning of medications , and orders have to be transcribed . The electronic medical record and other advanced technologies have decreased my ability to think. Needless to say, I've made a few errors and correction comes from nurses three plus decades younger than me, and my leaves don't feel very green.

The main thing I do here is work, I have no other responsibilities, opening up space for times of reflection, being still, and renewing my mind with Gods word which keeps me rooted and grounded in His love. Yes, I'm a tree lover!! What helps you stay rooted and grounded? Thanks for reading!
