Alters and world view

Two weeks ago, I went on a cultural hike intentionally walking from city to rural. Along the way, a tent was located next to a waterfall. Waterfalls are believed to be inhabited by spirits and are sacred places in this region. Three young men were in the tent making offerings to the spirits in exchange for protection, healing, and blessing. It sparked wonder as to what they really believe/believe in? We all believe something ?

I started reflecting on an assignment in grad school requiring me to articulate my world view in detail. A world view has to answer questions like: Where did I come from? 2. What is my purpose 3. Who am I? 4. How should I live? What is right and wrong (morality)? What happens at death?

There are 5 world views 1. Naturalism-the material world, there are no gods or spirits or supernatural (ex, secular humanism). 2. Animism- the world is inhabited by spirits ( African religions) 3. Pantheism -everything is god and god is not personal (new age spirituality) 5. Theism- There is a personal God who created the universe and is actively involved with it. ( example: Judaism), Christianity, Islam) 6. Post modern realism- truth. Is subjective, (example: modern western pop culture ). Credit:ChatGPT)

I’m challenged to consider where others are coming from, and world view helps to make sense of practices and beliefs I have encountered here. It’s interesting the animistic culture here needs to make some kind of sacrifice for guilt or wrongdoing. The good news of Christianity is Jesus came to make the ultimate sacrifice for us so we don't have to live in fear or shame and constantly atone for our wrongdoing .

Thanks for reading, I would like to hear any thoughts on your world view.
